Vad har du ändrat uppfattning om?

Så här dags, i brytningen mellan det nya och gamla året, när man behöver skaka ner julmaten och starta igång hjärnan igen brukar Edge publicera sin nyårsfråga till vetenskapsmän och tänkare, mestadels amerikaner. Frågorna är ofta till synes enkla, men tankeväckande. Årets fråga är den i rubriken: Vad har du ändrat uppfattning om?

Bland de intressanta svaren finns Anton Zeilinger, kvantinformatiker från Wien, som inte längre tycker att det han gör är värdelöst:

When journalists asked me about 20 years ago what the use of my research is, I proudly told them that it has no use whatsoever. I saw an analog to the usefulness of astronomy or of a Beethoven symphony. [...] When journalists ask me today what the use of my research is I proudly tell them of my conviction that we well have a full quantum information technology in the future

Sean Carroll, fysiker och bloggare på Cosmic Variance, har ändrat uppfattning om det vetenskapliga etablissemanget:

Growing up as a young proto-scientist, I was always strongly anti-establishmentarian, looking forward to overthrowing the System as our generation's new Galileo. Now I spend a substantial fraction of my time explaining and defending the status quo to outsiders. It's very depressing. [...]
[There is] an unhealthy brand of skepticism, proceeding from ignorance rather than expertise, which insists that any consensus must flow from a reluctance to face up to the truth, rather than an appreciation of the evidence.

Tidigare frågor har varit bland annat "Vad tror du är sant även om du inte kan bevisa det?", "Vilka frågor har försvunnit?" och förra årets "Vad är du optimistisk om?".
